As an organization comprised of premiere independent custom home builders from around the country, we at CBUSA are used to seeing our Member Builders honored with impressive national accolades every year, and so far 2019 is shaping up to be no exception. On February 19th, CBUSA member builder Rod Cullum, founder and CEO of Cullum Homes in Scottsdale, Arizona was honored as the Custom Home Builder of the Year by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Custom Home Builders Committee at the NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, and on March 1, four CBUSA Member Builders were named to Professional Builder’s prestigious annual Forty Under 40 list. That’s right, a full 10 percent of the names on this year’s list belong to CBUSA Member Builders, including Marc Masotti, Vice President, Construction, of Homes by Dickerson in Raleigh, North Carolina; Matthew and Jon Moritz, Co-Presidents of Pittsburgh-based Eddy Homes; and Pierrette Tierney-Magleby, Vice President Business Development of Magleby Construction in Park City, Utah.
Masotti, 34, earned his BS in Construction Management from East Carolina University before joining Homes by Dickerson in 2007 as a superintendent. He was promoted to Construction Manager the following year and to his current position as VP of Construction in 2017, where he leads the development, production, and sales of new homes in Pinehurst, North Carolina. Last year he managed the production of more than 100 single-family custom homes valued at over $45 million. Among his many accomplishments, Masotti has been named Builder of the Year by the Raleigh-Wake County Home Builders Association and has earned over 20 Parade of Homes awards. Masotti has been a panel speaker for local home building and real estate sales organizations, worked on the local Habitat for Humanity Home Builders Blitz, and was the builder on Duke Children’s Hospital Miracle home in 2011. When he’s not at work, he enjoys playing and coaching sports.
Matthew Moritz, 38, joined his father Dave and grandfather Edward at Eddy Homes as President in 2003. He holds both a BA in Economics from Johns Hopkins University and a JD from Duquesne University School of Law. A licensed attorney, Matthew created and implemented operational processes to close more than $35 million in real estate in 2018. By successfully hiring and training field staff members, he’s helped Eddy Homes maintain an exceptional customer satisfaction rate for the past decade. Away from work, Matthew enjoys playing piano, skiing, running, family trips to Disney World, watching movies and reading.
Matthew’s younger brother Jon, 36, holds both a BS in Economics from Pennsylvania State University and an MBA in Finance from DePaul University. After joining his brother as Co-President in 2008, Jon was instrumental in increasing sales from $1 million in 2010 to almost $40 million in 2018 and doubling sales from 2016 to 2018. He also located and secured a five-to-seven-year portfolio of land that will afford the company long-term growth. Jon works closely with both Habitat for Humanity and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, and in his spare time enjoys traveling, wine tasting, going on long walks with his dog and exercising.
Tierney-Magleby earned a BA in Communication and Vocal Performance from the University of San Diego and an MA in Journalism from the University of Southern California before joining Magleby Construction as VP, Business Development in 2016. Before her tenure at Magleby, she became Taylor Morrison Real Estate’s Bay Area division president by age 35, growing it from 260 closings in 2013 to 500 the following year. While at Magleby she has branded and promoted new divisions such as Studio MX, an architectural drafting service based in Tijuana, Mexico, and Masterpiece Trade Services, which recruits, trains and creates legal paths for skilled labor from Mexico. She is a founding member of Professional Women in Building’s Utah Chapter and a board member of artificial intelligence startup AtlasRTX. Aside from her many business-related achievements, Tierney-Magleby has sung the National Anthem at a San Diego Chargers game, auditioned on a dare for American Idol when she was 8 ½ months pregnant and beaten company superintendents in a beer-chugging challenge!
