It also calls out the myriad of ways in which our Member Builders give back to their communities, both locally and nationally. There’s no greater case in point than Southern Pines, North Carolina-based Huntley Design Build.
Inspired to give back to the families of the brave men and women of our military – some of whom have made the ultimate sacrifice – Huntley Design Build President Will Huntley forged a brilliant idea in the fall of 2018. His company would build a gorgeous 3,400 square foot custom cottage-style home in the prestigious Ballybunion neighborhood of nearby Pinehurst and donate 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale to the Patriot Foundation, an organization whose mission is to, “provide support for the families of Airborne, Air Assault and Special Operations soldiers, and other selected warriors killed, wounded, injured, or who have become seriously ill in the Global War on Terrorism.” Through their fundraising efforts, the Patriot foundation provides scholarship funding for military dependents, childcare opportunities, and other monetary assistance to families in need. Since established in 2003, the charity has donated $4.5 million to help the children of soldiers killed, wounded or injured since 9/11.
“We are so appreciative to Will Huntley and his group for their commitment and enthusiasm,” said Chuck Deleot, president and chairman of the Patriot Foundation, at the home’s groundbreaking last November. “We’re all tremendously grateful for what Huntley Design Build is doing to push the concept of taking care of the children of soldiers that are giving everything. Their families are giving everything.”
“These family’s lives have profoundly changed,” Deleot continued. “The Patriot Foundation exists to help these soldiers’ families. Additionally, we provide a small percentage of funding for child care for the families of fallen and disabled soldiers whose surviving spouses need to obtain additional job training and development. In the past, we have also arranged a variety of other support from individual donors for specific purposes.”
Overlooking the 14th hole of the Pinehurst National Golf Resort’s National Course No. 9 designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, “Patriot House” was built with careful attention to detail and includes a wealth of amenities, creating a modern, spacious home with classic Southern charm. A covered porch welcomes you into the grand foyer of its open floor plan that includes a warm, cozy family room, elegant dining area and gourmet kitchen appointed with Portobello-stained cabinets, Turkish-white carrara-honed countertops, nickel plumbing fixtures and state-of-the-art Electrolux ICON® series appliances. The remainder of the first floor is dedicated to a beautiful owner’s suite, guest room and laundry room, each with equally stunning appointments including built-ins, custom tile, designer lighting fixtures and a custom wrought iron handrail on the staircase leading to the second story. There are three additional bedrooms upstairs – two with their own private baths – as well as a large rec room perfect for both family time and entertaining guests. The home, which is currently on the market priced at $700,000, also includes a full golf membership to Pinehurst Country Club Courses No. 7 and No. 9, with the first year’s dues waived, giving the new owners access to nine golf courses and all the resort’s other amenities.
According to Deleot, the sale of Patriot House will allow the Patriot Foundation to provide 100 scholarships to the children of the soldiers the organization supports, many of whom were stationed at nearby Fort Bragg.
“In 2016, the Veterans Administration reported that there were more than one million service-connected disabilities that had been approved,” Deleot explained. About 70 percent of the casualties are from the Army, and since Fort Bragg accounts for about 12 percent to 13 percent of its soldiers, it’s plausible Fort Bragg could have had over 50,000 service-connected disabilities since 9/11.”
“This project is a way for our family and company to give back to the community,” Huntley expressed at the groundbreaking. “It is difficult for small businesses to make large financial contributions. Pooling our time, expertise and resources with our partners allows us to come together and make a sizable contribution that will truly make a difference for the Gold Star families who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We’re excited to be a part of if it.”
“What Will Huntley is doing with Patriot House is a magnificent act of generosity and patriotism,” Deleot emphasized. “We are very grateful to Will and his coalition of patriots.”
